The IEEE Life Member Affinity Group Achievement Award is given annually to one LM Group to recognize those substantive projects or achievements which have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of IEEE Life Members activities or the IEEE Life Members Fund.

  1. Description
The IEEE Life Members Affinity Group Achievement Award is given annually to one Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG) to recognize those substantive initiatives, projects or achievements that have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of IEEE Life members operations, the IEEE Life Members Fund, IEEE members in general, or the public image of IEEE.
The award will be based on the programs that took place during the period of 1 January to 31 December of the preceding year.

  1. Award:
A Certificate of Recognition and a subsidy of US $2,000 for future affinity group activities will be awarded to the winning Life Members Affinity Group. There will also be a stipend of up to US $2,000 for a representative to travel to an appropriate event to receive the award.
  1. Scope:
One award will be granted annually.  However, the award need not be granted in a given year if no suitable nominations have been submitted.
  1. Eligibility:
  • All LMAGs that are in good standing are eligible to receive The Life Members Affinity Group Achievement Award. 
  • No LMAG is eligible to receive more than one IEEE Life Members Affinity Group Achievement Awards within a three-year period.
  1. Basis for Judging:
The Life Members Affinity Group Achievement Award committee will consider the excellence and the extraordinary contributions of the LMAG.  The basis of selection of the award shall be based on the achievements in one of the following categories:
  1. LMAG Outreach, Engagement, and Community Involvement
    • Corporate engagement
    • Pre-university STEM or CTE commitment
    • University outreach
    • Community participation
    • Involvement with other IEEE organizational units and groups, e.g., Young Professionals, WIE, Student members, Student Branches, Sections and Chapters
    • Relationships with other professional and technical societies
  1. Life Member Engagement
    • Life Member Affinity Group Vitality as evidenced by one or a combination of the following:
      • Performance at LMAG meetings and group activities – attendance and participation
      • Affinity Group/Chapter growth
      • Innovative programs for members
      • Volunteer activities
      • Growth of member involvement
      • Financial growth of the LMAG
    • Collaboration with other Life Member entities and facilitate interaction among other Life Member Affinity Groups
    • Documentation and promotion of LMAG activities, programs, and ideas that can be repeatable and deployed by other LMAGs
  1. Advancing the image of IEEE and the Life Members by communicating LMAG ideals, programs and IEEE initiatives through various channels including, but not limited to:
    • Web site
    • Newsletters
    • Social media
    • Blogs
    • Public broadcast and print media channels
  1. Providing general support of IEEE initiatives including:
    • Innovation, breadth, and type of activities
    • Contributions to the IEEE Life Member Fund
    • Conference involvement
  1. Selection committee:
The recipient will be recommended by an Awards Subcommittee of the IEEE Life Members Committee (LMC) and approved by the IEEE Life Members Committee.
  1. Presentation

The award would be presented annually to the winner and announced at an event designated by the Life Member Committee.  Presentation of the award will take place at, but not limited to, events including IEEE Region or Area meetings or even local IEEE section events, such as an annual section dinner or awards ceremony.  The specific venue and timing of the presentation will be finalized between the Life Member Committee and the award recipient.
